Beschrijving
English: Young soldier transporting shells, Messines, Belgium, 1917. A young soldier wearing a German helmet is pushing a wheelbarrow full of shells down a dusty road. Behind him are another two soldiers, one holding a shell. The landscape is fully visible.

The derogatory term for a German, 'Boche', or 'Bosch' originates from the French slang 'alboche', derived from 'Allemand' (German) and 'caboche' (pate, head). The Battle of Messines Ridge involved the British soldiers using their considerable mining expertise, digging under the German trenches, and blowing them up with TNT.
