Français : Cénotaphe de Richard Cecil (vers 1553) dans l'église Saint-Martin de Stamford. Ce dernier fut le père de William Cecil, dont le Monument funéraire et tombeau a été construit juste à droite de celui-ci dans la même église.
Richard Cecil fait face à son épouse jane Heckington (morte vers 1587, âgé de 87 ans), ils sont tous deux appuyés sur un pupitre de prière. Ils ont eu un fils, William Cecil, et 3 filles, Anne, Elizabeth et Margaret (visibles à genoux en prière sur la partie inférieure du cénotaphe). Les armoiries figurées sur le monument intègrent celles de son épouse et montrent ses racines galloises. L'église actuelle date de la fin du 15ème siècle (construite dans les années 1480) et remplaceun bâtiment plus ancien, probablement détruit après le sac de la ville en 1461. Richard Cecil (d. 1553) was father to William Cecil, whose Monument is nearby. He married Jane Heckington (d, 1587, aged 87) around 1519, and they had one son, William, and three daughters, Anne, Elizabeth, and Margaret. Richard rose through the ranks to become Groom of the Robes, Sheriff of Rutland and other positions. Him and his wife are kneeling at a prayer desk, with his daughters as weepers below. The coat of Arms above incorporates arms of Cecil quartering Winston, Heckinton, Walcot and Caerleon, showing his Welsh roots. St Martin's church, Stamford The church today dates from the late 15th century, although it replaced an earlier building. It is thought that the original church was ruined after the sack of the town in 1461. However, other churches were little damaged, so a more likely reason is that it was neglected by the nuns who owned it at the time. The present church was built in the 1480s. He married Jane Heckington, daughter and heiress of William Heckington of Bourne, Lincolnshire. Arms of Heckington or Ekington. inscription : In happy memory of Richard Cecil, Esq., and Jane his wife. The said Richard was of the Robes to K. Hen. 8. & to K.E.6. he deceased the 19 of May 1552. & is interr'd in St Margarets Church in Westminster. He was Sonne to David Cecil of Stanford Esq. High Sheriff of the County of Northampton in the 33. & 34. Yeares of King II.8. and is buried in St. George his church in Stanford. The said Jayne was daughter and Heire of Wam. Heckington of Bourne in the County of Lincolne, Esq. She lived 87 Years, whereof she continued a Widow 35 Yeares. She deceased the 10th of March 1587. She was a very grave, religious, virtuous, & worthy Matron ; and delighted exceedingly in the Works of Piety and Charity. She was crowned wth. much Honor & Comfort, & (by God his great Blessing) she lived to see her Children, and her Childrens children, to the fourth & fift Generation, and that in a plentifull and honourable succession, being a happy Mother of that most Honorble. Sr. Wm. Cecil Knight of the noble Order of the Garter, Lo : Burghley, Lord high TRER, of England, who lyeth here by her.
Margaret was first married to Roger Cave of Stanford Esqr. of whom is descended Sir Thomas Cave; and after to Ambrose Smith Bosworth Esqr.
Elizabeth was first marryed to Robert Wingfield of Upton Esqr. of whom is descended Ser Robert Wingfield of Upton Knight& after to Hugh Ailington Esqr.
Anne marryed to Thomas Whyte of Tuxford Esqr. of whom is descended John White; Esqr.
