Er is veel onduidelijkheid over dit werk. Op de vraag van de originele auteur reageerde Per Vollestad (schrijver van biografie over Sinding) als volgt:
- I´ll try to answer you about "Mannamaal"
- It is some years since I did my reseach, but this is what I find in my papers
- I only have a score for baryton and piano, but I know that the first perfromance was with orchestra. I do not remember of a version for men chorus
- The text is written by Andvord, and it is very patriotic and a political statement in Norways fight for freedom. I´ll try to translate first line: "We been told we are small, but even small people have a right to live as a nation." ...
